As the new session of the Sindh Assembly is set to begin from Wednesday (tomorrow), two separate adjournment motions have been submitted by Opposition lawmakers to the PA secretariat for discussions on rising crime, lawlessness and anti-social activities in Sindh, including Thar.

The adjournment motions were submitted separately on Monday by Opposition lawmakers belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League – Functional and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The adjournment motion submitted by PML-F’s Nand Kumar Goklani states that the recent killing of two Hindus by robbers had disturbed peace in Thar.

He said the two traders’ murder in broad daylight had exposed the failings of the Sindh government, particularly since Thar has historically been a peaceful area free of such incidents. He said the provincial government had failed to protect lives and properties of the people of Sindh. The PML-F legislator said it was high time that routine proceedings of the Sindh Assembly in the upcoming session be adjourned to discuss the alarming rise in crime.

The second adjournment motion was submitted by PTI’s Khurrum Sher Zaman and pertains to rising street crimes in Karachi. The PTI MPA, whose family was robbed in a mugging in DHA recently, said the lives of Karachi’s residents were being gravely affected owing to frequent instances of street crimes.

He said it was the responsibility of the provincial government to protect the lives and properties of the people of Sindh. To this end, the lawmaker said, the Sindh Home Department and its allied agencies were required to play their due part to overcome the menace of crime.
