NAB approves references against former DG, others

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday recommended filing reference in the accountability courts against a former director general Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) and others for corruption and corrupt practices and misuse of authority.
The decision was taken at the Regional Board Meeting (RBM) of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Director General Brig (Retd) Farooq Naser Awan chaired the meeting.
A press release said that the meeting was attended by directors, additional directors, case officers, senior legal consultants and other concerned officers.
The communiqué said the board recommended filing of reference in the accountability courts against Tariq Hayat Khan, former DG GDA, and others for corruption and corrupt practices and misuse of authority.
The accused had allegedly allotted precious plots at Galiyat in violation of laws and rules, causing huge loss to the national exchequer.
The board also authorised an inquiry against officers and officials of Revenue Department, Forest Department and Agriculture Department of Upper Dir. The accused have embezzled Rs120 million by increasing the estimation of compensation of 250 kanals land acquired, the statement said.
Another inquiry was authorised against medical centres and plazas in Mardan. “The accused have constructed plaza in violation of approved maps in complete contradiction with laws and rules, causing a huge loss to the exchequer,” the statement said.
The board also approved a reference against Muhammad Sharif, ex-town nazim, regarding accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income. “Evidence collected by investigation team shows that the accused has accumulated assets worth Rs119 million, said the statement.
