ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Hamza Khan overpowered Egyptian top player Omar Azzam in a hard fought five game thriller to march into the semifinals of the British Open Squash Under-13 category in Birmingham (UK) Friday.
Hamza defeated Azzam 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 2-11, 11-8 to make it to semis. The match lasted 58 minutes.Hamza is former Under-11 British Open champion, the title he won last year. U-13 category: Hamza enters Brtish Open semis
In Under-15 category, Mohammad Ashab Irfan lost to Franklyn Smith from England in 3rd round 11-3, 6-11, 11-9, 9-11, 9-11 whereas Asad Ullah Khan defeated Leo Fatialofa (New Zealand) 11-4, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9 in 3rd round. However, in 4th round Asad Ullah Khan also lost to Ahmed Marzouk from Egypt by 5-11, 8-11 and 9-11. In Under-17 category, Mohammad Farhan Hashmi lost to Duncan Yung Yij Lee (Malaysia) in 3rd round 7-11, 6-11 and 9-11. In Under-19 category, Abdul Malik lost to Tom Walsh (England) in 3rd round 11-8, 2-11, 5-11 and 4-11 and Muhammad Uzair Rasheed lost to Shady Elsherbeeny (Egypt) 6-11, 5-11 and 7-11.
