100 parents refuse polio vaccination in Multan From Our Correspondent MULTAN: More than 100 parents have refused to vaccinate their children against poliovirus in Multan during the recent anti-polio campaign, The News learnt on Thursday. The sources said that cases would be registered against the parents for refusing anti-polio drops to their children. They said that the polio teams would again visit the residences of the 100 parents to try to administer anti-polio drops to their children. They said that 303 polio cases were detected in the country last year, including four cases in the Punjab. One each case was detected in Chakwal, Bhakkar, Sheikhupura and Dera Ghazi Khan districts, they added. When contacted, polio campaign incharge Dr Nabeel Saleem said that 40 families residing in Khushhal Colony, Qadirpur Raan, Rashidabad, Rewari Mohallah, Suraj Kund Road, Mauza Bhakal Berrh, Vehari Bypass, Muzaffarabad and other areas had refused polio vaccination and most of them belonged to the Ahle Hadith school of thought. He said that the families had refused vaccination against poliovirus due to their religious belief. He said that the health authorities were compiling statistics of refusal cases in the district and a detailed report would be completed in the next couple of days.
Christians protest against gas outage From Our Correspondent MULTAN: Christians of Razaabad and other areas Thursday staged a demonstration against gas loadshedding and blocked Razaabad Chowk and raised slogans against the government for not resolving their genuine issue. The protesters led by Asif Massih said they were without gas since the last seven days. They blocked a road for more than two hours and burnt tyres on it. They demanded restoration of gas in 24-hours in their areas. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed on adjoining roads across the Razaabad. Asif said due to gas outage the locals are forced to buy food from restaurants. The protestors said they had conveyed their troubles to officials of Sui gas repeatedly, but no action was taken.
