They said that the polio teams would again visit the residences of the 100 parents to try to administer anti-polio drops to their children. They said that 303 polio cases were detected in the country last year, including four cases in the Punjab. One each case was detected in Chakwal, Bhakkar, Sheikhupura and Dera Ghazi Khan districts, they added.
When contacted, polio campaign incharge Dr Nabeel Saleem said that 40 families residing in Khushhal Colony, Qadirpur Raan, Rashidabad, Rewari Mohallah, Suraj Kund Road, Mauza Bhakal Berrh, Vehari Bypass, Muzaffarabad and other areas had refused polio vaccination and most of them belonged to the Ahle Hadith school of thought. He said that the families had refused vaccination against poliovirus due to their religious belief. He said that the health authorities were compiling statistics of refusal cases in the district and a detailed report would be completed in the next couple of days.
