‘6,500 policemen for 8m Faisalabad population’

FAISALABAD: There are only 6,500 police officials for the district population of 8 million, said City Police Officer Dr Sohail Habib Tajik.
Addressing a function at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) here on Thursday, he said that proactive role of community coupled with immediate investment in security arrangements was imperative to make Faisalabad a crime free city. He said that the murder of two businessmen Abdur Rehman Faisal Ali created sense of insecurity among the business community. He said that police accepted the challenge and succeeded to trace the culprits involved in the killing of the two businessmen. He said that the main culprit involved in the two murders was killed in an encounter while special teams had been constituted to nab the remaining criminals. He claimed that the surge in crime had now been subdued after the killing of the main culprit.
Speaking on the occasion, FCCI president Rizwan Ashraf thanked the CPO and his team for tracing the culprits involved in the killing of Abdur Rehman and Faisal Ali. He said that Faisalabad was a metropolitan city and street crimes were haunting the citizens. He said that the FCCI had written a letter to the chief minister, requesting him to strengthen Faisalabad police with additional recruitments.
FCCI former president Mian Javed Iqbal, SP Malik Awais and others also spoke on the occasion.
