PU syndicate meeting postponed
LAHORE : Punjab University's Provisional Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Moeen Nasar on Thursday postponed syndicate's 1724th meeting to be held on Friday after facing strong resistance from deans, principals and teachers.
According to a press release issued by Academic Staff Association of Punjab University on Thursday, the VC convened a meeting of deans and principals at committee room of his office on Thursday to take them on board regarding various agenda items to be discussed in the meeting.
However, majority of deans and principals advised the vice chancellor against convening the meeting.
Under prevailing circumstances, one of the participants said, the vice-chancellor should not convene the meeting of and take policy matters and punitive action since there was no representation of teachers in the highest statutory body.
He said that the university was also planning to hand over two kanals of its land and PIA Planetarium, while university teachers had strong reservations about it.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Thursday, the PU Teachers Front called upon the chief minister and the governor to intervene and take notice of alleged malpractices in the university.
It said the term of four representatives of teachers, elected through elections, on the seats of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer had expired in June this year.
In this context, the Punjab University Teachers Front had strongly reacted to convening of the syndicate meeting and taking up policy agenda items in the absence of their representatives.
