Moeed retains 200m crown, Kinza wins judo gold

KARACHI: Sindh’s promising sprinter Abdul Moeed Baloch retained his 200m crown by clocking 21.82 seconds in the men’s athletics competitions on the third day of the 2nd Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Youth Games at the Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Wednesday.

Punjab as usual were leading the medal chart with 39 gold medals, 24 silver and 17 bronze by the time this report was written.

They were followed by Balochistan with 14 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze medals.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came next with 14 gold, 12 silver and 24 bronze medals.

Sindh were at the fourth spot with nine gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze medals.

Moeed bettered his previous timing of 22.22 which he had registered in the last edition.

This was the second gold for the athlete. On Tuesday he had won the 100m title.

The 200m silver also went to Sindh as Umer Sadaat clocked 22.18 to finish second. Umar had clinched the 800m gold medal on Tuesday.

The bronze medal went to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sohaib Mahfooz, who clocked 22.43.

Sindh’s Kinza also won gold in open category of women’s judo competitions, while Sindh’s Maryam claimed judo silver in -44kg competitions. Sindh also grabbed women’s team kata karate silver. Sindh’s Abdullah got silver in +100kg judo competitions.

Punjab dominated the wrestling competitions by sweeping all the eight gold medals. In the -57kg category, Faiz ul Hassan of Punjab claimed gold, Asad Ali of Islamabad got silver, while Azher of AJK and Ghulam Sarwar of Balochistan took bronze.

In -61kg, Mohsan Ali of Punjab got gold, Dawood Khan of Islamabad claimed silver, while Karam Ullah of KP and Mufeed Alam of Gilgit-Baltistan claimed bronze.

In -65kg, Mohammad Ammad of Punjab got gold, Mohammad Usman of Islamabad took silver, while Mohammad Yousaf of Balochistan and Fazal Haneef of Gilgit-Baltistan claimed bronze.

In -70kg, Intizar Hussain of Punjab captured gold, Faraht Ullah of KP grabbed silver, while Rozee Khan of Islamabad and Sami of Sindh claimed bronze.

The -74kg gold went to Hassan Mahmood of Punjab, Ismail Syed of KP got silver, while Fazal Ullah of Sindh and Usama Mir of Islamabad captured bronze.

In the -86kg category, Nouman of Punjab claimed gold, Sajjad Khan of KP got silver, while Mohammad Aslam of Balochistan and Abu Bakar of Sindh got bronze.

In -97kg, Tayyab Raza of Punjab picked gold, Rana Faisal of Sindh claimed silver, while Abbas Ali of Islamabad and Abdul Qadeer of KP took bronze.

The +125kg gold went to Mohammad Awais of Punjab, Raja M Hassan of Islamabad got silver, while Mohsin Khan of KP and Abdul Baree of Balochistan claimed bronze.

Punjab also won gold in three categories of weightlifting. In 56kg, Sharjeel Butt of Punjab got gold, Aleem Ahmed of Sindh captured silver, while Nouman Gill of KP claimed bronze.

The 62kg gold went to Sohaib Kaleem of Punjab, Hashir Zaman of Balochistan claimed silver, while Kifayat Ullah of Balochistan got bronze.

In 69kg, Mohammad Sameer of Punjab got gold, Mohammad Zubair of Balochistan picked silver, while Dawood Razzaq of Balochistan captured bronze.

In men’s singles squash, Mansoor Zaman of KP, a youngster who featured recently in World Junior, got gold, Zeeshan Zeb of KP claimed silver, while Samiullah of FATA claimed bronze.

Mubashir Reza of Punjab and Haris Nadeem of Sindh qualified for the final of the men’s singles snooker event.

Mubashir defeated Umar Memon of Sindh 73-19, 84-0, while Haris beat Amir Sohail of KP 64-11, 58-12.

In the snooker team event, Punjab and Sindh blasted their way into the final. Punjab defeated Islamabad 3-1 with the frame scores of 86-28, 79-43, 53-56, 72-41.

In the other semi-final, Sindh overpowered KP 3-2 with the frame scores of 60-37, 10-62, 47-57, 49-39, 49-7.

In the 6-Red men’s singles semi-finals, Mubashir of Punjab whacked Rana Munawar of Islamabad 3-2 with the frame scores of 44-15, 2-32, 40-19, 31-32, 53-8.

In the other semi-final, Umar Memon of Sindh downed Amir of KP 3-1 with the frame scores of 28-5, 5-40, 38-22, 38-18.

Punjab and Sindh blasted their way into the final of the men’s netball competitions as well. Sindh also moved into the final of women’s netball after beating KP in the semi-final.

Punjab secured women tennis team event title by outsting Islamabad 2-0.
