MULTAN: The Punjab government has allocated Rs 86 billion for development projects in the division, said Commissioner Asadullah Khan.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that out of Rs 86 billion, a sum of Rs 30 billion had been allocated for the Multan metro bus project. He said that Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif was expected to inaugurate the Metro bus project during his visit to the district to open the Multan International Airport next week. He said that total length of the metro bus project was 37km and it would be completed in two phases. He said that work on the first phase would begin from March. The metro bus corridor-I route would start from Bahauddin Zakariya University to Chowk Kumharranwala and would pass through Northern Bypass, Chungi No-6, Chungi No-9, Fish Market, Daulat Gate, Chungi No-14 and BCG Chowk, he added. The commissioner said that length of corridor-II was 10.82km. He said that the metro bus project had been revised and a 12km long flyover would be built from Northern Bypass to BCG Chowk. He said that Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had approved the Multan ring road project and its groundbreaking was expected after the final approval from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Multan. The commissioner said that the Punjab government had released Rs 56 billion for 188 development schemes in Multan, Lodhran, Vehari and Khanewal districts.
He said that the Multan Kidney Centre would start functioning in a month. He said that a sum of Rs 732 million had been released for provision of missing facilities in schools. He said that equipments were being purchased for a 150-bed Multan Children Complex, he said, adding that a sum of Rs 1.8 billion had been spent on construction of its building. He said that a proposal regarding extension of the Multan Cardiology Hospital had been sent to the government. He said that Rs 310 million would be spent on construction of a link road from Multan International Airport to Jamilabad.
