SUKKUR: At least 10 members of a family were killed and several others injured in a collision between two passenger coaches and a Suzuki van on the Indus Highway near Sehwan Sharif on Sunday.
The vehicles collided with each other at the Chachar Stop. The local police personnel and volunteers rushed to the site of the accident and shifted the dead and injured to a local hospital. One man, three women and six children were killed in the accident. The dead were identified as Jamaluddin Shaikh and his wife Reshma, their children Jamshed and Jamil, their nieces Saima and Iqra, Sara and her mother-in-law Kamul Shaikh, two-year-old Ajwa, and three-year-old Khushboo. The deputy commissioner of Jamshoro said that the dead belonged to the Noor Muhammed Shaikh village of Qamber and were travelling to Karachi from Qamber.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Bahadur said that two coaches, one coming from Sehwan and the other coming from Jamshoro, collided into the Larkana-bound Suzuki van, sandwiching the vehicle. He further stated that the accident occurred because the two passenger coaches were travelling at a very fast speed. The drivers of both coaches managed to escape, the SSP said.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the deputy commissioner of Jamshoro to ensure that all medical facilities were provided to the injured without any charges and that all bodies were safely sent to their native village. The Sindh CM also ordered the deputy commissioner to furnish the report of the accident within 24 hours. Following the CM’s order, the bodies were safely moved to the Noor Muhammed Shaikh village, where the final rites of the dead were performed.
