Nikah registrar training concludes

Lahore: Under the project ‘Training of Nikah Registrars’ of Punjab Commission on Status of Women, 2,079 Nikah registrars and local government officials including 1,835 nikah registrars, 35 Union Council Chairmen and 209 Union Council Secretaries have completed their training on proper filling of nikah-nama and marriage registration process here.

Total 80 sessions were conducted from 06 to 20 Dec in nine towns of Lahore. The training was focused on different areas of importance like constitutional fundamental rights linkages with family rights, Muslim family laws with amendments, nikah-nama, registration of marriage, dowry, polygamy, responsibilities of nikah registrar, child marriage restraint act, dissolution of marriage, divorce, khula’a and other grounds of divorce, arbitration council and birth registration.

While her visit at training centers, Punjab Commission on Status of Women Chairperson Fauzia Viqar said adequate filling of nikah-nama in accordance with all related laws would empower women and ensure gender equality. She stressed a careful reading of nikah-nama before signing to counter underage marriages and other social taboos.

Project Manager Shahid Iqbal briefed the audience about the motives of training and its importance. Besides, pre-test and post-test of participants were taken to weigh the training. The participants took interest in the sessions and assured to obey all laws while filling the deed. Booklets containing all relevant laws and rights were distributed among the participants.
