KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has amended rules on purchases made from duty-free shops located in the country, a notification said on Thursday.
A Customs General Order (CGO) No 07 of 2017, said the purchase of perfumes, toiletries, cosmetics or food items per passenger against the duty-free allowance would not exceed $75 in each of the said categories.
Pakistan Customs directed the duty-free shops to allow duty and tax exempted purchases after determining the bona fide of passenger through barcode reading of his / her boarding pass through the system.
It also directed the duty-free shop authorities to install barcode readers within three months.
Pakistan Customs reduced the time period to 60 days from 90 days after the arrival for a passenger to purchase from duty-free shops.
These purchases; however, will be subject to biometric verification of the passenger through machines installed by the National Database Regulatory Authority.
“The purchase shall be allowed only after verification system available at duty-free shop outlets, which is to be installed by the management of concerned duty-free shop within three months. The verification system of Nadra shall maintain record of passenger profile for five years,” it added.
