BAHAWALPUR: The Lahore High Court Bahawalpur Bench lawyers on Monday observed a strike against registration of a case by Khanpur City police against senior lawyer Akbar Babar of Khanpur and his son advocate Nauman Akbar on the order of Khanpur Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Sharif Bhatti.
Talking here, the lawyers alleged that the judge had got registered the FIR against the lawyers by using his judicial influence. They said that Akbar Babar and his son reacted during the court’s proceedings as they were arguing for the bail petition of their client. If the lawyers did any mistake while arguing, contempt of court notices should have been issued to them rather than they were booked under the ATA sections on the order of the judge, they added. Later, the police arrested Nauman Akbar.
THIRD PARTY VALIDATION: The Higher Education Commission in collaboration with the World Bank on Monday organised the Third Party Validation (TPV) of Institutional Performance Review Process.
In this connection, Dr Shamsuddin Qureshi being a consultant visited the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and met Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Mushtaq. Dr Shams told background and objectives of the TPV, followed by discussion with QEC Director Dr Saeed Ahmad Buzdar. He also exchanged views with the faculty members and sought suggestions to improve the quality of the higher education at national level.
