PESHAWAR: The Human Rights Cell of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) has said that 90 percent of the human rights complaints have been disposed of during the current year.
Through a statement, the cell pointed out that last year 2,417 complaints, out of a total 3103, were disposed of making the disposal percentage of 78.
During the current year till 6th of December, 3,356 out of 3,741 complaints were processed. It indicated 90 percent disposal. The cell said as such disposal when compared with 2016, improved by 12 percent.
Similarly, 147 complaints were convened into writ petitions this year in contrast with 56 of last year’s.
Definitely, there has been surge in the institutions of complaints which is reflective of the trust of general public in the efforts of the Cell in securing redressal of their grievances on one hand and the disposal rate of the complaints has also accelerated commensurately on the other, it added.
The figures, it cell said, portrayed the actual picture of the comparative performance of HRC for the two years which has set straight the nature of the news item in question.
It was reported in the press on December 10 that the HRC had a pendency of 686 till January, about 3,055 new human rights cases were instituted with it during the current year of which it disposed of 3,356 cases by December 6.
The cell, however, had the pendency of 385 complaints on the day the news items appeared. The cell has converted 147 complaints into writ petitions during the year and these are being heard by the relevant courts.
