ISLAMABAD: Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz Hussain has said that like all other countries, the government is not in a position to provide high-level health facilities. “For this reason,” he added, “the private sector has to step forward to collaborate.”
He said this in his address at the inauguration ceremony of a state-of-the-art Organ Transplant Centre in the Bahria Town International Hospital in Bahria Orchard on Wednesday. The Bahria Town chairperson said that it is the responsibility of sincere people from the private sector with adequate resources to spend a part of their wealth to help the needy and deserving patients. “If not more they can at least treat 25 to 30 per cent patients for free in their state-of-the-art hospitals,” he added. “If this is not possible, then they can at least treat 25 to 30 per cent patients on a no-profit basis.”
He said that high-level facilities, like surgeries, should be provided within Pakistan. “In this way, people will not spend thousands of dollars outside the country,” the Bahria Town chairperson said. Malik Riaz said, “Charity begins at home.” He added if the richest families of Pakistan act upon this advice, then the deserving people of Pakistan would not have to travel to different countries to get expensive medical treatment. He said that now people will get transplant facility in Pakistan and will not go to Indian and China for expensive treatment.
With this resolve, Malik Riaz has established an organ transplant centre in Lahore too. With a 100-bed capacity, an international-level hospital was established on October 25, 2017, where surgeries are being performed under the supervision of experienced surgeons and consultants from different countries. Around 55 kidney, six liver and many corneal transplants have been successfully conducted at this hospital so far.
Pakistan Bahria Town with its projects in Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Nawabshah is not only Pakistan’s largest real estate developer but also the largest real estate developer of Asia. For establishment of hospitals throughout Pakistan and in Bahria Town projects, the Bahria Town has signed an agreement with the Saudi-German Hospital and the Harley Street Clinic. Lauding efforts of the hospital's medical team, Riaz said Pakistan had achieved a significant milestone by establishing this centre for public welfare at a cost relatively less than those established in India.
