Former Supreme Court judge Justice (r) Rana Bhagwandas died of cardiac arrest in Karachi at the age of 73. The legendary man had achieved many milestones in his life. He became the first Hindu and the second non-Muslim to serve as the chief of the highest court in Pakistan. Bhagwandas also worked as the chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan.
It had been a couple of months back that I encountered this legendary man and found him affable with a serene, calm exterior. His smiling image is still preserved in my mind. During discussions, the late justice was trying to harbour hope in me that our nation would change for the better and progress would come our way. Without doubt he stood optimistic throughout the journey of his services to Pakistan.
