The attack on Bethel Memorial Methodist Church is yet another testament to the fact that Quetta has become a soft target for radical elements to unleash havoc and unrest. Minorities in the province have been in a vulnerable position for a long time. At first, the Hazara community was at the receiving end of these attacks. However, it appears that the Christian community has become the new target.
Despite its utmost endeavours, the government hasn’t been able to eradicate militancy. The security personnel must adopt a vigilant approach to prevent such attacks. Moreover, the government must take suitable measures to guarantee security.

Genocide has once again reared its ugly head in Quetta. The attack on a Methodist church has disrupted Christmas celebrations. Although casualties were reported, the law-enforcement agencies played an active role in defusing tensions and protecting the province from what could have been an even greater catastrophe.
Such incidents have become common in Quetta. Last year, lawyers, police officials and members of the Hazara community lost their lives in a string of attacks. The Balochistan government needs to take urgent measures to eradicate terrorism.
