THE Lahore High Court Monday summoned Solicitor General of Pakistan to explain undue delay in payment of judicial allowance to employees of federal courts.
Hearing petition of the court’s employees, Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan observed that the government had ample funds for its favourite projects except the judiciary.
The judge expressed displeasure on non-appearance of federal secretary law. Representing the federal government, a deputy attorney general sought more time from the court for payment of allowance. Justice Khan directed the solicitor general to appear in person today (Tuesday).
The petitioners pleaded that the government had not complied with a court’s order about payment of the judicial allowance.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court Monday issued notice to the Punjab government on a petition filed by government servants complaining about non-payment of claims on maturity of insurance policy. The petitioners through their counsel stated that the government was denying their claims of insurance whereas premium for the policy had already been paid. They said the employees were facing acute financial problems due to non-payment of their insurance claims. The court admitted the petition for regular hearing and sought reply from the government by March 13.
