Asim wins Iran Navy Squash Open

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Asim Khan has won the $10,000 Iran Navy Squash Open at Heidarnia Squash Club, Tehran. This is his first PSA title. Eighth seed Asim stunned fifth seed Martin Svec of Czech Republic 11-5, 11-4, 8-11, 12-10 in 45 minutes in the final.
In the semi-finals, he had surprised third seed fellow country man Ahsan Ayaz 11-5, 4-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-8 in 93 minutes. Tayyab Aslam, one of Pakistan’s top players and fourth seed in the event, was humiliated by qualifier Alireza Shameli who overpowered him 10-12, 12-14, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 in 80 minutes in the first round.
