Food insecurity

The Global Hunger Index has revealed that 22 percent of Pakistan’s population is undernourished. These statistics indicate that the food crisis in the country might escalate in 2030 if the government does not take any preventive measures to control poverty and hunger.

According to a report, 795 people go to bed hungry on a daily basis. The waste of food remains a critical problem in the world and has contributed to hunger. Statistics have revealed that a quarter of all wasted food could potentially feed the 795 million undernourished people across the world. Moreover, 870 kilogrammes of food is wasted at hotels in Islamabad hotel on a daily basis. In addition, 40 percent of food in Pakistan goes to waste. By wasting food, we are also inflicting long-term damage on the environment. Research has proved that carbon dioxide produced from wasted food has accelerated climate change. We should introduce a cluster of initiatives to ensure that the food crisis does not escalate further.
