GHAZI: District Nazim of Haripur and a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Adil Islam ?sustained injuries when unidentified armed men opened fire on his vehicle near Srikot, police and family sources said on Saturday.
According to sources, Adil Islam was on his way to Ghazi after attending the council’s proceedings in Haripur when he was attacked.
A police guard and driver were also travelling with him in the vehicle, but they remained unhurt in the attack.
Police and family sources said that he suffered injuries on his shoulder and was initially taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Ghazi, wherefrom he was later shifted to Islamabad.
Though the doctors said his condition was stable, he needed better healthcare facilities.
“Adil Islam ?was going to Ghazi from Haripur via Srikot when armed men opened fire on his car at a deserted place Shinai near Srikot but the driver sped away,” said a family source.
This correspondent later visited the hospital and saw the injured district nazim before he was shifted to Islamabad.
Besides the police, a large number of people, his family members, relatives, friends and PTI workers arrived in the hospital and condemned life attempt on Adil Islam.
?Young Adil Islam is the first cousin of PTI MPA from PK-52 ?Ghazi Faisal Zaman and is quite active in politics.
The police later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation but didn’t make any arrest till filing of this report.
District police officer Haripur Syed Khalid Hamdani said ?they would soon arrest the culprits involved in attack on the district nazim.
