CHITRAL: The woman councillors on Thursday staged a walkout from the district council over the alleged unfair distribution of funds.
Led by Asia Ansar and Hasul Begum, the woman councillors protested, what they said was, biased and unfair distribution of development funds.
No one from the council bothered to bring back the protesting female councillors.
Meanwhile, the councillors expressed concern over the government’s lack of interest in providing electricity to upper Chitral and Koh Union Council from the Golen Gole power project.
The session was convened with Convener Maulana Abdul Shakoor in the chair.
The councillors said 16,000 power consumers were without electricity since the flood destroyed the Reshun power project two years ago.
They said the provincial government not only failed to rehabilitate the Reshun power project, but it could not ensure provision of electricity to the affected areas from the Golen Gole power project.
They said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should have purchased electricity from the Golen Gole power project for the affected areas.
They warned of launching a protest campaign against the government if the electricity issue was not resolved forthwith. The district council session was adjourned for an indefinite period.
