While issuing recommendations to the PMDC and other public health-related government bodies to devise guidelines to stop deceptive marketing practices, a realistic time frame for their development and implementation should also be included in the Competition Commission of Pakistan’s order.
The CCP, PMDC and PDA should also check similar guidelines for chemicals in cosmetics products and dental amalgam. Both contain mercury – a hazardous substance – in quantities that can prove injurious to health. This can be disclosed to users/patients, clearly displayed on labels and must not exceed national quality standards (NQSs)/permissible levels of chemicals in products. Such standards should be developed and implemented at the earliest.
