ISLAMABAD: Universal Service Fund (USF) and Telenor entered in a contract worth Rs1.9 billion to provide basic telephony and data services to the population in the yet un-served areas of Chitral “Lot” consisting of identified areas in Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir districts.
On the occasion, the Minister for IT Anusha Rahman said “through the rural telecom project in Chitral lot an un-served population of around 1.2 million people residing in 1,173 muzas will be benefited”.
In this connection, a signing ceremony between USF and Telenor was held at the ministry of information technology. The contract signed between USF and Telenor marks the launch of telecom services to be provided by Telenor in the above-mentioned areas. Chief Executive Officer, Universal Service Fund, Faisal Sattar and Chief Executive Officer, Telenor, Michael Patrick Foley signed the contract. Minister for Information Technology was witness at the ceremony.
