PESHAWAR: Following the death of the additional inspector general in a suicide attack on his car in Hayatabad last month, the KP Police have sent a summary to the provincial government for bullet-proofing of 454 vehicles.
Director Public Relations of the KP Police Senior Superintendent of Police Zahidullah Khan said a summary to convert 454 vehicles into armoured cars had been sent to the chief minister.
The official added that all the regional police officers, district and sub-divisional police officers and station house officers across the province would be provided one bullet-proof car. A meeting was held with chief secretary in the chair that agreed to bullet-proofing the 454 cars, the official said.
A number of senior police officers were martyred in terror attacks while being driven to home or office in recent years. Most were attacked by suicide bombers or with IEDs. The police have started making efforts to provide accommodation to officers in the nearest and secure places to minimize the level of threat to them while travelling between office and home.
