KARACHI: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has said that the Test side should be given some time as it is not easy to fill the void left by the retirement of such players as Younis Khan and Misbah-ul Haq.
“It will take time (for us) to re-construct the Test combination,” he told ‘The News’ in an interview. “The team management is trying to create a winning combination and we hope to return to the winning ways soon,” he added.
“We faced humiliating defeats against the weak Sri Lankan side at the UAE which is considered home ground for us, but you know there used to be great contributions from Younis and Misbah and now that they are not there, we should be given some time,” said Sarfraz, who has been successfully leading Pakistan in limited overs games.
About Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) third edition, he said that he was looking forward to its final being played in Karachi and wished that Quetta Gladiators to be there. “Karachi is my city and I would love my team to be there in the final,” he said. He rejected the criticism that PSL franchises had not selected players who represented regions. “The franchises are bound to pick players from the draft framed by the PCB. So there is no question of the owners ignoring the regional players,” he added. He said that Multan Sultans, the sixth team, would add to the competitiveness of the league. “We expect them to give every other team tough time,” he said.
