The new underpass

December 05, 2017
The inauguration of the new 1.3km long underpass on Lahore’s Canal Road by Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is another milestone achieved by the PML-N-led government. Previously called Chubacha Underpass, the project has been renamed as Beijing Underpass to commemorate China’s contribution to various development projects in Pakistan. The laudable project will benefit 175,000 vehicles on a daily basis. It is pertinent to mention here that three bridges for U-turns have been constructed to maintain an even better flow of traffic and roads on both sides of the canal have been widened to a maximum of nine km under this project.
LED lights have been installed to add to the beauty of the project. There is an objective reality out there, but we view it through the spectacles of self-asserted values. We should stop undue criticism against the government as it will serve as an obstacle to the ongoing development in the country. The Punjab government certainly acknowledges the needs of its people and is leaving no stone unturned for their socio-economic uplift. It is hoped that such initiatives will continue in the future as well.
