Agricultural output

December 01, 2017
Agriculture productivity is being affected by climate change. Factors, including rainfall pattern, temperature hike, changes in sowing and harvesting dates, water availability, and evapotranspiration and land suitability, have resulted in a sharp decline in the productivity. According to a case study, the impact of climate change on agriculture includes the diminishing of agricultural output and the shortening of growth period for crop. Because of global warming, researchers have to produce heat resistant seeds. The climate change may change the level of precipitation as well as the pattern and the direction of rainfall. So, drought-resistant seeds have to be developed without any delay.
The increasing population requires more cultivable land for wheat production. Water conservation management and the irrigation system have to be improved. Being an agricultural country, Pakistan should be capable of securing domestic consumption by increasing the level of wheat production. The surplus can be exported abroad to earn foreign exchange.
