Work on Leh dredging inspected

Rawalpindi: Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department Secretary Asad ur Rahman Gillani Wednesday visited Wasa Rawalpindi and also inspected the ongoing work on Nullah Leh dredging.
Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mahmood told this correspondent that during the inspection visit, he briefed Asad ur Rahman Gillani that Wasa has completed 60 per cent work of dredging of Nullah Leh and remaining work will be completed in stipulated time -- before the start of the monsoon season this year.
The secretary was told that dredging project of Nullah Leh was approved by the Punjab government in 2011-12 with a total cost of Rs92 million which was to be completed in three phases.
Wasa has already completed its two phases in 2011-12 and 2013-14 with at a cost of Rs62 million. The current and final phase of the project is in progress with the balance funds of Rs30 million released this year by the government and work on clearing of vulnerable reaches, shifting of material will be done during this phase.
He was further briefed that awareness campaign has also been launched and banners containing messages to avoid throwing solid waste into Nullah Leh are displayed.
