Four suspected Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and a member of Lyari’s Uzair Jan Baloch gang were killed in separate encounters with police and Rangers on Thursday.
The TTP operatives were gunned down by a team of the Malir police during a raid at a hideout near Indus Plaza in Sohrab Goth, according to SSP Malir Rao Anwaar.
He told The News that Bin Qasim SHO Azhar Iqbal had received information that militants working for Qari Alamgir, a known TTP commander, were hiding at a compound near the graveyard in Sohrab Goth.
SSP Anwaar said a large police contingent including commandos moved to besiege the compound.
“We advised them to surrender but to they preferred to fight. Four militants were killed in the ensuing shootout, although Qari Alamgir managed to escape,” he said.
A suicide vest, around 60 kilograms of explosives, a Kalashnikov, 9mm pistols and substantial ammunition was found from the hideout.
Though there was no official confirmation in this regard, another police official claimed three of the killed militants had been identified as Noman, Maulana Yasin and Subhan, while their fourth accomplice appeared to be a foreign national.
Gangster shot dead
Talha alias Gawadri, a high-ranking member of Lyari’s Uzair Baloch gang, was killed in a joint raid by Rangers and Kalakot police near Gabol Park.
SP Lyari Aftab Nizamani said the gangster was involved in several murders, including target killings of three Pakistan People’s Party activists.
A pistol and ammunition were seized by law enforcers.
Two robbers shot dead
Two robbers were killed in an encounter with Garden police on Thursday night. However, three of their accomplices managed to escape.
SHO Imdad Khawaja said the five men were robbing people at gunpoint near Noorani Garden when a police patrol reached the area. In the ensuing shootout, two of the robbers were seriously injured as their partners fled.
The two were shifted to a nearby hospital but passed away during treatment.
The SHO said the five robbers had shot dead a man named Shahid in the area just a few days back.
