Court empowered to deal with everyone: CJP
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday, while taking a strong exception to efforts by some elements to bring the judiciary to ridicule, observed that some lawyers were bent upon destroying the judicial system through politics but the judicial system will not be destroyed.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar dismissed as infructuous the appeal filed by President Lahore High Court Bar Multan Bench Sher Zaman Qurashi against the order of the Lahore High Court, issuing his arrest warrants in the contempt of court case for misbehaving with a judge.
During the hearing, the chief justice of Pakistan observed that the court has the power to deal with anybody. The chief justice, while admonishing the lawyers of the Multan bench, asked as to whether they respected the dignity of courts. “These are not the courts where you misbehave whenever you want. The courts have the powers to deal with everyone,” the CJP warned while addressing the lawyers.
The Chief Justice was of the view that earlier the lawyers were not respecting the lower courts but now they have also resorted to disrespecting the higher courts. “Keeping in view your conduct, it seems that you are bent upon destroying the judicial system but I will never let the non-professional people destroy the judicial system”, the Chief Justice said.
The Chief Justice further observed that whenever an issue is reaching an amicable solution, lawyers of Multan create hurdles in it. The Chief Justice asked the lawyers to respect the courts as this institution is a source of bread earning for the legal fraternity. He further asked the lawyers that if they wanted his help in the issue, they should send their representatives and meet him in the Chamber but ensure good conduct.
