The recent visit of the foreign minister of China provides a new narrative to international politics in the region. Post-Nato Afghanistan demands more comprehensive and strategic cooperation between the two nations. Maintaining a strategic balance in South Asia is necessary not only for Pakistan but for China as well. To meet these challenges both the nations are keen, active and eager to extend the existing level of commitments and cooperation. Both sides agreed on the need for reforms in the Security Council but with consensus and in conformity with the United Nations Charter: that any party or state that fails to implement UNSC resolutions on any issue lacks the moral and political justification to be a member of the UNSC.
In the present security situation in Pakistan, the visit helped with the confidence of the democratically-elected government and trust between the two nations. The planned visit of President Xi Jinping – probably next month – will further explore new horizons of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
