‘Improve jails security’

Punjab Inspector General Prisons Farooq Nazir Wednesday visited prisons in different districts to check security arrangements and advised the authorities concerned to improve security by placing barbed wire around the jails.
According to a handout, IG Farooq Nazir visited the District Jail Attock, District Jail Jhelum, Sub-jail Chakwal and District Jail Gujrat. He directed the management to install more ovens in prison’s kitchen to provide food to prisoners in time. For coming summer season, he advised the management to check and fix the problems of water coolers and ceiling fans.
He directed the officials to build rooms for installing PCO in jails and building a control room of ‘20 X 14’ to monitor the performance of the CCTV cameras and jammers. He asked for explanation to Superintendent Chakwal for not being present during the visit. He recommended placing concrete barriers to ensure the security of jail.
IG Prisons also advised to shift those prisoners who have involved in more than three cases to District Jail Jhelum. He suspended the In charge Barrack 2 SG Warder Asif Jameel, Head Warder In charge Hospital Zameer Hussain and Head Warder In charge Central Tower Ghulam Abbas for inattention and negligence from duty. He issue show cause notices to Assistant Superintendent In charge Central Tower Amir Fayyaz.
He suspended in charge prisons kitchen Warder Faqalat Hussain of District Jail Jhelum for negligence from duty. For the post of MO at District Jail Gujrat, a reference has been sent to the Home Department, the IG added. He suspended the In charge Head Ward Security Umer Farooq and issued show cause notice to In charge Assistant Superintendent Kamran for negligence.
