LAHORE: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) said on Wednesday the industry in Punjab has been rendered uncompetitive due to high cost of energy, citing it as the main reason large quantity of Indian yarn is penetrating the market.
Chairman APTMA S M Tanveer, in a statement, said Punjab industry need gas simply to produce textiles at competitive rate as the electricity supplied by Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) is two times more expensive.
He said in a meeting on Monday textile millers decided to close down mills due to suspension of gas since February 9, 2015.
