As many as 500 attendees spread across 65 delegations from all over Pakistan, making RMMUN ‘17 a huge success.
The closing ceremony of RMMUN17 began with a thank you note by the President RMMUN’17 Arbaz Khan who congratulated and expressed gratitude to all the delegates for participating in 9th edition of the prestigious four-day RMMUN 2k17 Conference.
The guest of honour included Joao Sabido Costa, ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Embassy of Portugal, Adel Elarbi, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary, Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia and Walid Ahmad Mahmoud Abu Ali, ambassador extraordinary & plenipotentiary, Embassy of the State of Palestine embellished the occasion with their presence.
Joao Sabido Costa, ambassador of Portugal, Embassy of Portugal said while addressing the audience that it is truly an honour and to witness these young delegates participating from all over Pakistan in such a prestigious event which is full of knowledge and polishes their speaking and debating skills. He stressed on how these conferences build patience and tolerance n young individuals representing different countries to hear the other person’s stance and develop integrity to a new level.
The winners of Outstanding Diplomacy and Honorable Mention Awards in each committee were also announced on the occasion. The conference closed with the announcement of the winning delegations as this year, a clean sweep by Lahore Grammar School (LGS). The chairmen of the different bodies rewarded the best participants, whose talent as outstanding negotiators was recognized. The evening took place in a very enthusiastic and professional atmosphere.
The enthusiastic delegates were placed in eight different committees namely- DISEC, PNA, SOCHUM, UN WOMEN, ICAC, NCC, FIFA and the UN Security Council. In these committees, the delegates discussed problems ranging from ‘Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction’ to ‘Women Rights’. While the committee sessions were exciting, the crisis situations were exuberant. In fact, after three days of intense debate and conflicting country policies, the delegates came up with comprehensive resolutions.
RMMUN 17 stood for unity, acceptance and empathy. Ideas and freedoms thrive in societies where people agree-at a basic minimum-to accept that others are different in caste, faith, color, lifestyle, and language-and welcome these differences.
One of the main objectives of the ceremony was emphasising that that MUN is a tool for the future, especially in a globalized world were multilateral negotiations will be more and more frequent. Students that were part of this benefited from MUN in a variety of ways. CEO RIS, Mr. Walid Muhstaq pointed out that MUN “makes you see how difficult the process is, and you need to think creatively. It is a very exiting experience that helps the youth widen their views on international affairs.”
