Climate change

November 23, 2017
Pakistan has suffered economic losses of around $4 billion due to climate change. More than 500 lives are being lost every year due to worst effects of climate change. According to the country’s federal minister for climate change, in an attempt to tackle climate change, the government is introducing short duration food crop suited for high altitude and new feedstock technology for livestock. The initiative is taken to restrict illegal trade of timber and develop mountain ecology. It will also help protect agricultural terraces from extreme soil erosion and increase forest cover.
These efforts will contribute towards overcoming the adverse effects of climate change in mountain areas and improve the livelihood of the local communities. As a result of the rapidly changing climatic conditions, glaciers are receding at a fast rate. There is a dire need to take drastic steps for the development of climate resilient infrastructure.
