Ignored orders

November 19, 2017
Slowly and relentlessly, the authority of the civilian government has been eroded. A blatant example is the failure of the government to clear the Faizabad Interchange. On Friday (Nov 17), the Islamabad High Court, after hearing the petition filed by a citizen, ordered the Islamabad administration to clear the area. The petition was filed after residents was fed up with the ongoing protest that caused road blockades, bring the lives of residents of the twin cities to a standstill.
It is easy to see that residents are in trouble. It is easy to see that the administration has not managed to do anything. It is easy to see that the high court has issued orders to clear the area. What is difficult is to predict what will happen if there are any casualties while clearing the area using force? What is even more difficult is to visualise what will happen 20 years down the line? Will every administrative decision be made by the judges? The Pakistani nation is looking into a difficult future. I sincerely hope I am wrong.
