LAHORE: Aqeel Khan and M Abid qualified for the men’s singles final of Nayza All-Pakistan Open Tennis Championship after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals here at the PLTA courts on Friday. In the first semifinal M Abid proved too hot for Muzammil Murtaza and outclassed him 6-3, 6-1. Aqeel, on the other hand, as usual played outstanding tennis against Shahzad Khan and toppled him 6-4, 6-4 in the second semifinal. Both Aqeel and Abid will vie for the men’s singles title on Saturday. In the ladies singles, Ushna Suhail and Sara Mansoor qualified for the Saturday’s final after overcoming their respective opponents in the semifinals. In the first semifinal Sara Mansoor thrashed Noor Malikin straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The second semifinal was contested between international tennis player Ushna Suhail and former No 1 Sarah Mehboob. Ushna emerged as winner after beating Sarah in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. In the men’s doubles quarterfinals, Aqeel/Shahzad defeated Ahmad Babar/Yousaf Khan 6-3, 6-2, Muzammil Murtaza/Mudassar Murtaza outlasted Abbas Khan/Shahid Afridi 6-1, 6-2, M Waqas/Heera Ashiq outpaced Israr Gul and Ikraam Ullah 6-2, 6-2 and Abid/Usman Rafiq thrashed Abdaal Haider/Malik Abdul Rehman 6-2, 6-0. Later on in the men’s doubles semifinal Aqeel/Shahzad defeated Muzammil/Mudassir 6-1, 7-5. In boys under-14 quarterfinals Farman Shakeel thrashed Nalain Abbas 4-0, 4-0, Abdul Samad beat M Mahateer 4-2, 5-4, 4-2, Asheesh Kumar beat Hamza Ruman 3-5, 4-1, 4-0 and Hassan Ali trounced Abdul Hannan 4-0, 4-1.
