PESHAWAR: The officials of the capital city police visited different mosques of the city during Friday congregations and addressed the faithful in an effort to raise awareness about festive firing. The deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and the station house officers (SHOs) visited mosques in urban, suburban and rural areas. They addressed the worshippers before Friday prayers.
"The officials visited different mosques on Friday and interacted with people to seek their help to discourage aerial firing," Sajjad Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations told The News.
He said the police had launched a campaign against festive firing and cops had been directed to arrest those resorting to the practice at weddings and other festive occasions. "We told the elders and religious scholars that their help was needed to bring an end to this menace that has killed several people in recent years," DSP City Syed Atiq Shah told The News.
