KARACHI: The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) has sought assistance from business tycoon Malik Riaz for the construction of the Sindh Snooker Academy in Karachi.
PBSA president Alamgir Anwar Shaikh informed ‘The News’ here on Friday that they have approached Malik Riaz for support in view of his love for sports. “We have submitted a letter to him, requesting material support for building the snooker academy on the plot which the PBSA has acquired from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC),” he disclosed.
“We haven’t asked for cash grant or anything like that. Our objective is to have the snooker academy constructed as early as possible,” Alamgir added.
“We have emphasised the importance of the snooker academy in the development and promotion of the game in Sindh in particular and Pakistan in general,” the PBSA president added.
Once the academy is built, the cueists will get proper coaching facilities and tournaments can be organized regularly.
“He was generous enough to present a car worth something around Rs1.5 million when Mohammad Asif won the World Snooker championship in 2012,” the PBSA President recalled.
