In a crackdown against profiteers conducted by the city administration on Thursday, 60 shopkeepers were charged with Rs151,000 collectively for selling commodities above the rates assigned by the government.
The campaign was carried out in Saddar, Garden, Jamshed Quarters, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon Goth, Shah Faisal Town, Aram Bagh, Civil Lines, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Landhi, Malir, Model Colony and Korangi. Those fined included 23 milk sellers, 14 grocers, 11 chicken retailers, nine vegetable vendors, and three fruit vendors.
