After helping the government survive the D-Chowk sit-ins, the opposition is now shedding crocodile tears by protesting against the increase in GST. The government and the opposition are silent over select tragedies.
This is not the first time that political leaders have placed expediency over principles in Pakistan. This kind of democracy should be characterised as crocodile democracy which is a fitting description of our outdated model of government. What is the use of this brand of democratic order that has stripped the people of their self-respect, dignity, livelihood and many other basic human rights? Is there no limit to the depleted patience of the people? Once this patience runs out, the ruling elite will find no place to hide.
