OKARA: Punjab Irrigation Minister Mian Yawar Zaman Sunday said the Headworks Sulemanki on the Sutlej River would be upgraded for its full capacity with the cost of Rs 800 million with the cooperation of a Chinese company in two years.
Talking to reporters at his residence after the cancellation of the visit of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at the headworks where the CM was scheduled to lay foundation stone of the project, the minister said the headworks would provide additional irrigation water to Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari and Bahawalnagar districts. He said upgradation would be completed of barrages and headworks of other canals as well. The minister said after the completion of the project 2.5 million acres of agricultural land would get irrigation water.

Drummer shot dead in wedding function

OKARA: A drummer was shot dead in a mehndi function in village 33/2L on Sunday.
The mehndi function of Nisar was underway on Saturday night when a guest named Naeem exchanged hot words with drummer Munawar. In a fit of rage, Naeem shot dead the drummer.
