It came as no surprise when Ghulam Ahmad Bilour reiterated his previous offer to pay the heirs of the Charlie Hebdo murderers during a National Assembly session. Some sources are terming this a form of advertisement strategy. Is the senior politician aware that he is openly soliciting and stirring hatred?
He is a wealthy ANP leader, a businessman and a philanthropist but apparently has very little to show in the official records. No one knows exactly how he will pay the promised sum of $200,000. It has to be understood that the veteran politician is himself no stranger to the damage inflicted by the extremist minded when in 2012 his brother, Bashir Bilour, was assassinated by the Taliban.. Pakistan is still raw with the wounds of the APS tragedy and the fatal blast in Shikarpur. In this difficult time, Pakistanis expect their leaders to be supportive and helpful in devising solutions to terrorism, not encourage already vulnerable people to take up arms. Yet, what is even more disappointing is that the minister’s earlier statement way back in 2012 received worldwide criticism and the ANP distanced itself from his announcement. This time not a single party member or even the National Assembly speaker criticised him which shows the worrying levels of despair and helplessness in the Pakistani society.
