KARACHI: In a bid to reactivate national footballers, who have been sitting idle since long due to conflict between the two groups, Pakistan Football Federation’s (PFF) administrator and former justice Asad Munir plans to organise National Football Championship in October.

Sources close to the development said that the event will begin October 7 with the qualifiers to be held in different cities. The final round will be staged in Lahore from October 25.

“All the 27 departmental and provincial teams besides Islamabad would be part of the exercise,” a source said.Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Col. Mujahid has appreciated the decision of holding the event.

“Efforts have been made by the organisers to give chance to all departmental, provincial and regional teams. Due to tug-of-war between the two rival groups, no activity was organised for the last one and half years due to which poor footballers of the country were totally crushed,” Mujahid said.

“Justice (retd) Asad Munir has decided to conduct activity in the best interest of football and players,” he said.Mujahid said FIFA should take the initiative and resolve Pakistan’s football crisis.
