Federal Ministry of Human Rights Secretary Ms Rabiya Javeri Agha, showed grave concern over child abuse/murder cases reported in Kasur district during a meeting held at Punjab Civil Secretariat.
Provincial Secretary for Human Rights Asim Iqbal, Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Sumbal, additional home secretary, AIG Police and other officers concerned were also present in the meeting.
The main focus of meeting was the enhancement of data sharing and coordination among pioneer stakeholders with regard to human rights issues at the provincial and federal level. An immense need to coordinate on reporting mechanism on international conventions was also focused.
The human rights violations in perspective of child rights violations both at the provincial and federal level were brought into light. The best practices on part of Punjab government regarding steps to combat child labour, efforts of child protection bureau, coordinated efforts to uplift the primary education system were also discussed and appreciated. The federal secretary for human rights also held a meeting with the inspector general of police, Punjab, at his office for development in the matter of child abuse in Kasur district. The Sheikhupura regional police officer gave a briefing to the federal secretary covering various aspects of police investigation on the incident.
On the directions of the federal secretary for human rights, a high profile team of the representatives of Ministry of Human Rights had visited Kasur district August 24, 2017. The team visited the Kasur and met officials there. The team members also met the aggrieved families. The team stressed the need for joint efforts from all the stakeholders to stop such incidents in future.
The Ministry of Human Rights has identified basic stakeholders from the provincial government who can be a force for the eradication of child rights violations Kasur district. It was said that there was a need to develop strong ties among local government, education, health skill development institutions to safeguard the basic rights of children.
