QWP wants Pakhtuns compensated

PESHAWAR: Calling for efforts to rid the country, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata, of the menace of terrorism, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Thursday said the war on terror wreaked havoc on the soil of the Pakhtuns and exposed them to untold miseries.
Addressing separate public gatherings in Shodag and Tangi union councils in Charsadda district, he said the Pakhtuns should be compensated for the losses they suffered due to acts of subversion in the last decade.
The events were held in connection with the upcoming death anniversary of former governor Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao.
Paying glowing tributes to Hayat Shaheed, Sikandar said that he laid down his life for the cause of the poor and made them politically aware. He said Hayat Sherpao inspired the have-nots to stand up for own rights.
The QWP leader said that thousands of people sacrificed their lives for the sake of peace. He said violence has displaced over 1.5 million Pakhtuns, who are compelled to live in makeshift camps and rented houses.
“It is unfortunate that the war on terror is being fought on the Pakhtuns’ land, but their leadership is not taken into confidence before making any decision about their fate,” he deplored. “The government has abandoned the Pakhtuns, who have been grappling with a host of challenges,” he complained.
