CHARSADDA: The voting on the no-confidence motion to oust District Nazim Fahad Riaz and Deputy Nazim Musawir Shah could not be held on Monday because the opposition members failed to show up at the venue.

The members of the ruling PTO coalition were present in the District Council Hall but the opposition members did not show up in the hall for voting on the motion.

The assistant director of Local Government Department, who was the presiding officer, had convened the meeting at10 am Monday  for voting but delayed it due to absence of opposition members.

Members of the ruling coalition staged a walkout against the official for not initiating the proceedings in time. They accused him of supporting the opposition and asked him to declare the motion null and void as the opposition members had failed to attend the session.

The Local Government Department issued the notification of the failure of the motion at 4 pm. The opposition had submitted the no-confidence motion to unseat the District Nazim Fahad Riaz of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Naib Nazim Musawir Shah of the Jamaat-e-Islami. The Qaumi Watan Party had submitted the motion that was supported by Awami National Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam who have 50 members out of the total 75.

Acting convener Speaker Hidayatullah Khan resigned from his position over the alleged misbehaviour of the ruling coalition members. Meanwhile, opposition leader Qasim Ali Khan has accused the provincial government of kidnapping a member of the district council, Asghar Abbas ahead of the voting on the motion.
