Protesting students baton-charged in DG Khan
DERA GHAZI KHAN: A large number of students belonging to a private educational institution staged a demonstration against the administration for issuing them invalid degrees here on Monday.
The students also blocked the Dera Ghazi Khan-Quetta Highway at Pul Dot and burnt tyres to register their protest. They alleged that they had been awarded degrees of an unregistered university, which had spoilt their career.
Representatives of different political parties, including the PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami, also joined the protest and expressed solidarity with the students. The protesters attempted to damage the billboards displayed to welcome a federal minister. The police allegedly baton-charged the protesting students when they refused to end the road blockade. The police also arrested about 25 students. The educational institution spokesman said that the issue had been taken up with the university and the HEC and it would soon be resolved.
