CHARSADDA: The 50-member opposition moved no-confidence motion against the district nazim and naib nazim in the District Council on Friday.

Hidayatullah of the Awami National Party (ANP) acted as convener according to the Local Government Act when the session got underway.

Pir Rahmanullah of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) tabled the motion. It was supported by the councilors belonging to Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, amid pandemonium in the house.

The 50-member opposition in the 75-member house alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazim Fahad Riaz and Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Nazim Haji Musawir Shah were involved in corruption.

Councillor Qasim Ali Khan of the QWP, who is the opposition leader in the District Council, accused the nazim and naib nazim of taking bribes from Communication and Works Department and committing embezzlement in the purchase of furniture for the council.

They also alleged that the district government had forged the minutes of the assembly meetings.
