KARACHI: Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) is satisfied with the performance of Iranian coach Hamid Movahedi and will extend his contract.
“Yes, he is a good coach and his contract will be extended for six months,” PVF chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob told ‘The News’ on Monday.
Hamid’s contract expires at the end of next month.Pakistan team recently finished 12th in the Asian Championship held in Indonesia under Hamid who has left for Iran on a few days’ leave.
He is expected to return next month as PVF wants to have him in training the young blood which the federation wants to hunt through country-wide trials.
Hamid will also handle Pakistan team for the Asian Junior Championship to be held this year.
Yaqoob said that despite bad performance in the continental event in Indonesia he has not lost his heart. “I have not lost my heart and will work more vigorously for the development of the team,” Yaqoob said.
“With so little practice we could not expect wonders from our side which also had a few youngsters. Our skipper Naseer also could not play the way he used to play in the past,” the official said.
However, he was quick to add that he would be able to build a strong side. “I plan to provide maximum exposure to the senior team in future. This year we will send it abroad for training. I have talked to the IPC secretary and he has agreed and hopefully the things will become better with the passage of time,” the official said.
He said that the team lacks in some areas and that Hamid would work on them. He said efforts would be made to prepare a solid side for next year’s Asian Games to be held in Indonesia in mid-summer.
